CURRENT PLOT BULLET POINTS:
Ireland played host to this year's Quidditch World Cup!
Spain played Transylvania, with the latter narrowly eking out a win in front of a roaring crowd of spectators.
[/ul]
Slytherin has held on to win the House Cup!
Hufflepuff has won the Quidditch Cup!
Sable Thanasis-Pontin has stepped down as Deputy Headmistress, our sources have reported. Hogwarts officials have been mum on the reasoning behind it, although it is speculated that the Potions Mistress has ties to an unsavory group of foreign witches and wizards, and her marriage to a werewolf.
Professor Thomas Baker has assumed the position of Deputy Headmaster in place of the beleaguered Thanasis-Pontin.

UPDATE:
[li] Professor Baker has returned to Hogwarts, though currently on "light duty" as he recovers from whatever ordeal he endured during his absence. Little is known as to what happened to him, where he's been, or who was responsible, and rumors continue to run rampant.
[/li][li] Professor Thomas Baker , professor of Care of Magical Creatures, has been missing for several weeks, having been last seen in the cabin near the forest. There are rumors abound regarding his disappearance, putting the blame on everything from werewolves to the giant squid to centaurs.
His whereabouts are currently unknown, though all evidence points to his kidnapping having been of a violent nature, due to the damage done to the cabin and what appeared to be hoofprints in the snow at the back of the house.
The centaurs of the forest have refused to answer any questions regarding the professor's disappearance and they remain high on the list of suspects.
Sanctus Sapiens, assistant to the groundskeeper, has taken charge of Care of Magical Creatures until Professor Baker returns.
[/li][li]In response to Professor Baker's apparent kidnapping, the Ministry of Magic has increased its legislature on centaurs, restricting their movement to and from the forest, and barring them from any contact with humans.[/li][/ul]
[li] A surprisingly uneventful New Year's gave way to February, and the continuation of the Quidditch season.
RAVENCLAW barely scraped out a win over SLYTHERIN, while
HUFFLEPUFF won handily against GRYFFINDOR.
Hufflepuff has overtaken Gryffindor for the lead in the Hogwarts Quidditch Cup, with Ravenclaw and Slytherin a distant third and fourth.

[/li][li] Scandal has struck the heart of the Ministry of Magic.
Aoife Fallon, undersecretary to the Minister of Magic and mother to Ravenclaws Liam and Teagan, went missing several weeks ago (as reported in the Daily Prophet.) Prior to her disappearance came the revelation she'd engaged in various extramarital affairs with several high-ranking Ministry officials.
Minister Emrys Treharne recently released a statement stating that Fallon has taken an "indefinite leave of absence". She has been replaced by Nigel Flinn, a formerly unknown junior member of the Ministry who has risen quickly through the ranks.
The meaning behind Fallon's sudden disappearance - and subsequent resurfacing and 'retirement' - is still unknown.
Meanwhile, former Minister of Magic Grom Huckleborn has publically challenged Minister Treharne, and rumors of his desire to seek re-election have been heard in recent days.
October-November 2049:
[/li][li] Winter is fast approaching at Hogwarts as the pages of the calendar have turned to December. With the disastrous events of the start of term having been well over a month ago, the students and staff were able to participate in an enjoyable Halloween Feast that culminated in the arrival of Professors Pontin and Eastman as a two-man horse!
[/li][li] Quidditch is in full swing, with Gryffindor's spectacular performance in the first match of the season putting them well into the lead, with Hufflepuff in second and Slytherin and Ravenclaw in a distant third and fourth.
October 2049
[/li][li] Marius Catherwood has stepped down from his post as Headmaster and will resume duties as Head of Hufflepuff House and professor of Charms.
[/li][li] Duv Joran, formerly of the Department of Mysteries, has succeeded Catherwood in the role of Headmaster. Little is known about him apart from the fact that he was appointed to the job by the Minister of Magic.
[/li][li] A month has passed since the werewolf attack, and though the initial fear that hovered around the castle has more or less waned, the constant presence of Aurors around the castle has been intimidating to some. Those who were injured during the battle have returned to the castle and classes and extracurricular activities have been going on as scheduled.
[/li][li]Professor Pontin has been reinstated as Muggle Studies professor and Gryffindor Head of House, but only under the condition that an Auror be present at all times.
[/li][li]Kayleen Farley-Baker inexplicably returned to the castle several weeks after the Sorting Feast, though the story of what happened, where she disappeared to, and how she managed to return have been kept under tight wraps. Only a select few have been told , and they will not elaborate further.
[/li][li]Hogsmeade weekends have been reinstated as well, but with a catch; students cannot visit the village without at least two professors in attendance in a chaperone capacity, and students are to be escorted in groups to whatever location they wish to visit.
[/li][li]With the start of a new Quidditch season just a month away, the teams have begun to hold scheduled practice sessions. Tryouts were held during the middle of September, and the newest members of the teams are getting used to their new teammates.
