Character Description:
A straight-faced man, you might easily overlook him in a crowd. Lean of figure and topped with a blonde romancut so devoid of color it's nearly grey and growing sparse on the crown of his head. Old before his time, the quiet Joran keeps mostly to himself, his real talents lie inside. It might be chalked up to his years as the head of the department of mysteries, but like all good secrets, they're locked away.
Personality Outline: Friendly but quiet, Duv is the sort of boy in school was ‘sidekick’ to a louder personality. In his years afterschool, he kept up the quiet, attentive personality which he’d been rewarded for, learning plenty and gaining promotions. Although he can go largely unnoticed in a crowd, when his serious temper is flared, it’s something to be looked out for. He won’t stand for silly attitudes on matters that tend toward the dangerous and disastrous, and can be severe in his punishments or reprimands therein.
Background
Mother: Mariana Bralic-Joran, Deceased (44), Teacher
Father: Simon Joran, 89, Retired Ministry Man
Siblings: N/A
Country of Origin: England
Heritage: Half-Blood
History: Duv was born as the only child to a wizard father and muggle mother, whose meeting had started when a student of the late Mariana’s set fire to a classroom. Simon Joran had been on the case and, despite regulation, had asked the woman out on a date. Her open-mindedness proved a success, and some years later they were married and had their only child.
The blonde boy was quiet from the get-go, rarely making a fuss and not causing trouble except the occasions his inquisitive nature stumbled into the dangerous, more than once finding himself in danger of falling out a window or being hit by nasty bits of magic. It wasn’t that he went seeking trouble, so much, but it came to him so easy in his advance for knowledge.
Duv was sorted into Ravenclaw in school, where he excelled in the Dark Arts as well as History of Magic, quickly taking a passion for the mysterious aspects yet remaining, and ever-hungry for justice amongst his schoolmates. He’d been set up with a job at the ministry almost immediately after graduation, nepotism at its finest, and surged through the ranks quite unimpaired. By his mid-twenties, he was working in the department of mysteries and settled in to dating what seemed to the love of his life when his mother took ill. She was gone by the end of week, taken down by a sickness so sudden, his father never got over it. Duv took it as bad, but with the aid of Mary, managed to carry on.
It was a cruel twist of fate that not a year later, pregnant with their first child, his wife was killed in a train accident. Muggle accidents always seemed harder to accept, particularly when one couldn’t wave their ministry rights around nearly as much, and it was a loss he’s continually plagued by. Some fame with various cases over the years earned him a promotion to the head of the Department of Mysteries at the age of 41, and he’d held that position the longest. With Catherwood stepping down, Duv was hand-selected by the minister as the replacement for Hogwarts Headmaster, a task he took with some trepidation but fully endeavors to be successful on.
