Character Description:
Wallace Marshall's face is lined, partially giving away his age. Still, the man holds himself upright and walks with vigor, as if determined to prove that he isn't old yet. A light scent of cologne wafts off him. His light gray robes cover his neat shirt and pants, both well-creased but slightly wrinkled, and his bare ankles peek over his loafers. A wand is tucked away into a pocket in Wallace's robes, ready to be drawn at any moment.
Personality Outline:
Well-travelled is Wallace Marshall packed into one term. Other than the knowledge he obtained from his cursebreaking adventures, Wallace gained some logic skill from breaking curses. His scientific knowledge is sparse (equivalent to a high school senior), but significantly more than most wizards. Marshall usually puts his life before others, unless he truly believes they deserve to be saved or they can't defend themselves.

History:
Beth Varley was a Squib; no letter came on her 11th birthday and she showed no signs of magic in her entire life. If she ever did, it might have been so weak that nobody would have noticed it anyway. This suited her just fine when her parents pushed her to integrate into the Muggle world; the magic that she knew existed was her fuel to become a scientist in the field of noetics.
Her work led her to Arthur Marshall, a visiting geneticist from a university. At once, they took to each other, pitching theories, arguments, and hypotheticals to one another. After listening to Annabeth's stories about magic, Arthur Marshall's open mind cycled back to the one big question: How does magic work? The similar-minded scientists married and brought two children into the world, Wallace and Lori Marshall.
Lori Marshall was nothing special in regards to her parents' research; just an abnormally intelligent child, similar to them. Wallace Marshall was the opposite of his sister. He was not as clever and normal in almost every way, except in one: he could do magic. Wallace's parents found the perfect test subject.
His days in school passed by uneventfully, despite displaying a talent in Transfiguration and Ancient Runes. With hard work, he eventually graduated with 'Outstanding' in both. During his summer vacations, Wallace allowed his mother to try mental experiments on him, while his father asked him detailed questions on magic and how it propagates through families.
At the age of 18, Wallace Marshall left to further his studies and travel, eventually getting a job as a Gringotts cursebreaker stationed in Peru. When he returned to England, the man was already rather old and weathered, and decided to apply for the Transfiguration position in Hogwarts as a place to settle down.
Basic Lesson Plan:
Years: 1, 2
Objective: Invertebrate Transformation Spells (Snails to teacups)
Required materials:
-Copy of A Beginner's Guide to Transfiguration by Emeric Switch
-Quill, ink, and parchment
-Wand
Procedure:
The first half of the lesson is to study the theory behind transformation spells. Notes will transcribed on the chalkboard, detailing the Law of Conservation as well as the importance of concentration and enunciation during the spell. After copying down the notes, students will practice the wand movements (a U-shape from left to right, flows into a point at the subject) and pronunciation of the spell: Verto vas! [VER-toh-VAS].
Second half of the lesson is actually attempting to transform a snail into a teacup. This requires concentration, and each part of the snail must be transformed individually into parts of the teacup. The shell and innards will become the main part of the teacup, while the head becomes the cup's base, and the tail becomes the cup's handle.
Homework:
For those who successfully transfigured their snail with no major problems (cup did not generate slime or try to slither away): Half a page on simple vertebrate Transformation, and the difference between transforming an invertebrate versus transforming a vertebrate.
For those who did not successfully transfigure their snail, or the cup still acted like a snail: Half a page on invertebrate transformations, why you went wrong, and how you could fix it. Extra homework is practice for a fresh start on a snail next class.
Bonus marks: Add a detailed diagram of a snail transforming into a cup.
Teaching Example:
Wallace Marshall stood behind his desk and watched the class fill with students. As they settled down, creaking in their chairs, he flicked his wand towards a piece of chalk which promptly scribbled down 'Invertebrate Transformation Spells' on the board. "Transfiguration is the modification of matter and its properties by magical means. You have already transfigured matches to needles, as well as pens to pencils. Now we're progressing to living subjects," said Wallace. "Please copy the notes on the board, and when you're ready, take a snail out of this box," he said, as the chalk wrote down the spell: 'Verto Spell Family -- Transform to Cup = Verto Vas [VER-toh-VAS]'.
