Character Description: A stocky bloke with a stomping swagger, there's little to pick up from Eastman that you don't see right off. Not to say he's shallow or simple, but he's the sort of person everyone knows, fierce but friendly. His affinity for firewhiskey is well-known and amongst his colleagues he's recognized as a devoted translator of ancient texts. More privately, he's got a fancy for a certain buxom waitress and will spend his weekends flirting and wooing to the best of his ability.
Beliefs: Despite a strong moral upbringing, Eastman is more flexible with his beliefs and generally an accepting man. Like anyone else, he has the occassional Hot Button issue that will send him into a frenzied argument, but he's always been more apt to loving, even when that loving is a violent and bloody fight. Without a doubt, he's a masculine man and relatively devoted to his work. Pouring over texts for a few hours usually earns him the rest of the night off to spend the company of others out in Hogsmeade. When it comes to students and his classes, he's an affable but serious professor who has little patience with disrespectful snots and takes a bit of pleasure in punishing.
Mother: Marleen Eastman nee Blom, 75, retired politician (dutch)
Father: John Eastman, deceased, policeman
Siblings: Only child
Country of Origin: England
Heritage: Muggle
History: Roger's parents had dreams for their child, the sort of hardworking people who instilled in their child responsibility and upstanding morals, being the fine persons of the world they were. The day he'd recieved his letter had crushed their dreams of his political future, which suited him just fine. His fancy had always been in stuffing his face in a history book and watching classic films like The Godfather with his father. Their opinions quickly changed when they realized just what having a wizard in the family meant.
With their blessing, he went off into the magical world and quickly soaked it up, falling into place happily. He found himself making trouble in Gryffindor with his mates, no more than the usual student, and enjoying those days. Graduation came and went, eventually losing the schoolboy nickname of Bingo and associating almost strictly as Eastman. With little idea what he wanted to with life, he spent summers traveling and learning with a small group of archaeologists, uncovering knowledge of ancient studies. Part of the team to unlock the meaning behind the magically powerful number 7, Eastman earned a small amount of regonition from the academic community but was largely unfulfilled. A passion for defensive magics filled him, devouring the history of the stuff with as much gusto as he'd thrown himself into anything.
When the time came, he took his position at hogwarts teaching Ancient Runes, enjoying the free time the summer left, and filled it with travel. America, Greece, Africa, and Europe saw a great deal of him over the years, with the stout man spending almost as much time taking in the local night life as he did in excavations and some of the darker areas of the world, encountering as many of the monsters the magical world had to offer as he could. In the end, Eastman's been able to ascend the ranks of favored classes, and finally saw opportunity to take up teaching the Defense Against the Dark Arts class.
