Personality/Beliefs Outline:
Compassionate, intelligent, with a ready wit and keen mind; once a Ravenclaw, always a Ravenclaw. Bitterness of his past runs deep within him, however, pushed beneath the surface of his conscience after years of practice. As a half-blood raised in a Muggle world, he is a strong believer in the rights of Muggles, even going so far as to using only enough magic to get by. No errant uses of summoning or conjuring spells by this professor. He is the consummate professor, with a deep love of what he does and the strong desire to impart his knowledge on his students. The safety of the not only the animals in his care , but his students as well, is paramount; he will never put a student in danger if he can help it.
Other
- Has two cats; littermates Shakespeare and Chaucer.
- Has two dogs - a corgi named Gatsby (on-campus) and a German Shepherd named Darcy (off-campus).
- Is Left-handed.

Mother:
Cecily Morse-Baker, Deceased, Witch (specific profession unkown).
Father:
James Baker, Deceased, Muggle (specific profession unknown)
Siblings:
N/A
Country of Origin:
London, England, UK
Heritage:
Half-blood.
History:
James Baker was a young Muggle on vacation in London from his home in Norfolk. Fresh out of school, he fell for the pretty young woman he met at a pub in a northerly borough. Unbeknownst to him, the young woman who he would become involved with was a witch by the name of Cecily Morse. Their brief romance led to marriage and the birth of a son: Thomas Caden Baker. As Thomas grew and his magical nature became apparent, Cecily broke the news of her birthright to her husband. Stunned by the revelation, James Baker walked out on his wife and young son. As hard as Cecily worked to hide her husband's leaving ("He's on vacation", "He's at a meeting", were some of the excuses she'd given her son), young Tom would eventually begin to work things out for himself.
If his father's actions affected him, he would not mention it growing up, though it surely weighed upon some aspect of his subconscious. However, like all British-born students with magical ability, Thomas received his invitation to Hogwarts on his 11th birthday. Resentful of his father's choice to walk out on the family, Thomas made the decision to go by his mother's maiden name of Morse, rather than his father's surname. Enrollment at the school was like an epiphany for the boy, who fit right in amongst his peers after initial trepidation at being surrounded by the "kind" that "chased away" his father. Through hard work and dutiful study, Thomas would graduate with NEWT levels and his professors all expected him to go places within the magical community.
Thomas, on the other hand, had other plans. Whether it was the deep and ingrained mistrust that had haunted him since James Baker's disappearance, or some form of homesickness, the wizard integrated himself back into the Muggle world, becoming a Muggle professor and resuming use of his father's surname. Years would pass and Thomas would grow comfortable in his chosen role. He fell in love with a coworker and, after several years of courtship, the two would wed. Though he enjoyed his job and the routine he fell into, he did not ignore the magical world. What was described in Muggle papers as unusual occurrences, Baker recognized at once that things were not all pleasant in the magical world he had left behind. Like his father before him, however, he had kept his former life a secret from his wife. A sub-par delivery owl that arrived at odd hours, and strange magical-related happenings in the news that could not be explained away, resulted in Baker having to reluctantly explain what he was to his incredulous wife. After twelve years of marriage, she would walk out on him after this revelation, leaving a heart-broken man in her wake. Try as he might to move on, Baker was force to accept who and what he was, and where he was supposed to be.
After so many years of running from his past, he could ignore his heritage no longer. He would return to the fold and obtain his license to teach at Hogwarts, though he will never turn his back on his Muggle heritage.
