Continuing on the historic records of the great wizard, Merlin.
After Merlin left Hogwarts, he journeyed through the world, with his former guardian and master, Blaise the Confessor, who wrote down many of Merlin's adventures. Merlin often used his Metamorphmagus skills and his Polyjuice Potion to disguise himself among the Muggles, to learn more about them and to help them, unseen and unknown.
Eventually Merlin gathered a number of other wizards and witches to found an organization, named 'The Order of Merlin', to assist in helping Muggles and promoting the protection and cooperation with them. It began small, especially when he was young, but it would grow with time.
When Merlin was nearing Thirty years, he met with the English Prince, Uther, son of Constantine II. Uther was working to reclaim the land for his brother, Aurelius, and Merlin, inspired by the Muggle King's bravery, joined the cause. Eventually Merlin's abilities with magic became known- likely when Uther was attempting to help transport the stones of 'Stonehenge' from Ireland to Britain- and they struck a deal. Merlin would use his magical arts to help him claim the land for his brother's throne. Merlin agreed, so long as Uther ensured that all who had magical gifts would be deemed safe and welcome in the realm.
Later on, while Uther led his army against Vortigern's son Paschent and his Saxon allies, he saw a comet in the shape of a dragon, which Merlin interpreted as presaging Aurelius's death and Uther's glorious future. Uther won the battle and took the epithet "Pendragon", then returned home to find that Aurelius had been poisoned by an assassin. He was crowned king and ordered the construction of two gold dragons, one of which he used as his standard.
It was after Uther's grand victory and crowning that history Merlin's fate would be changed again. At a banquet to celebrate the new king, Uther's retainer, Gorlois, Duke of Cornwall, introduced to the new king his wife, Igerna. Uther became enamored with the beautiful duchess, and he begged Merlin to use his magic to help him obtain her. Merlin foretold to Uther that if he waited he would have his kingdom and his heart's desire, but if he continued in haste, he would not see his kingdom's glorious rise. Uther cared not, and though Merlin was loathe to do it, in the end, he gave Uther a vial of Polyjuice, which Uther used to take on the form of Gorlois and, after Gorlois had left his castle of Tintagel to go forth to battle, Uther snuck in and seduced Igerna.
The next morning, news came that Gorlois had died in battle. Uther immediately married the now widowed Igerna, and became the step-father to Igerna and Gorlois's daughter, Morgan, who would be called 'Morgan le Fay'. Merlin immediately knew the child was a witch, and most certainly, she was sent a letter to have her attend Hogwarts. Morgan, being the granddaughter of a power sorceress, was sorted in to Slytherin house, and whilst attending the school, her half-brother, the magicless Arthur, was born.
