Reddish-brown shaggy hair well in need of a haircut flops in front of hazel eyes and frames his long face, giving him the appearance of a noisy scarecrow.
Personality Outline:
Jacob isn't one who can hide in the background. A spotlight hog, the thirteen-year-old will force himself there, whether it be by asking questions that don't need to be asked or pointing out things that don't need to be pointed out. Big as he is, a pudding cup will keep him quiet for a while.

A relatively ordinary family at first and second glance, the Daubneys are a magical family with more interest in technology than magic. Both Beatrice and William Daubney were students at Hogwarts, with an odd interest in blending Muggle lifestyles with magic. Unfortunately, none of their muggle things actually worked in Hogwarts, leaving them with a less than satisfying stock of things to tinker with.
When the Daubneys graduated from Hogwarts, Beatrice took up an automotive class in a community college, allowing her to continue tinkering with gadgets and make a livelihood for her family. William Daubney, on the other hand, decided to keep his tinkering as a hobby so he could take care of his newborn son, Jacob.
With a mother who hid in the garage all the time tinkering with gadgets and occasionally his toad, Jacob bonded with his father whenever he was home from work. William, aka Poppop, taught him how to grow things, both magical and not, as well as cooking just about anything spicy and savoury. And Mama only came out of the garage at meals; long enough to recount her time at Hogwarts to a disbelieving son.
Jacob's magical abilities showed up when he was 5, when Poppop was first teaching him how to care for petunias. The flowers burst into bloom before their eyes and William remarked, "Well, that sure makes this lesson a lot quicker." When the letter from Hogwarts came, the Daubneys happily took him off to Diagon Alley for his things. Well, Poppop did. Mama just tried to pack a couple textbooks on 2012 Nissans into his trunk.
