As young Tate Dawson returned to his dorm in the Gryffindor Tower, he saw something come flying through the open window. He saw a familiar owl drop a letter on the bed, then smiled. YAY! Shanessa must have written to him! She must have some reason why she didn't come back this year. He pounced upon the letter and ripped it open.
"I hope everything's alright," he said before reading the letter.
It became quickly clear that the letter was not from his girlfriend. It was instead from her father. He had withdrawn Shanessa from the school after the fiascoes with the Cult, too worried for his daughter's safety to allow her to continue attending. What was more, the man was rescinding the agreement that he and Tate's father had come to. Tate wouldn't be allowed to date Shanessa, not no or after he graduated. She was going to be given to her former-arranged fiance! Tate's smile melted with each word until the curt 'Sincerely', was read at the bottom of the letter.
Slowly, his hand went slack, fingers releasing the paper to the floor. He dropped backward onto his bed, then slowly he leaned toward his pillows. He didn't want any of the guys to see him cry, or hear him, so after casting silencing spells, and closing his bed curtains, the young wizard started to sob. First a friend dies, now he had no girlfriend.
"This... is the WORST YEAR EVER!" he wailed into the red and gold pillows as he curled up. How can even such an indomitable spirit get over something like this?
