Monday morning started normally enough, with students trudging out of bed and going to the Great Hall for breakfast. Unfortunately the patten wasn't going to last for the day.
In the boys' bathroom, closest to the Great Hall, a student was laying face first on the floor. His robes indicated him to be a Hufflepuff and it was easy enough to identify the young boy as Julian Roderick - a second year Muggleborn.
His eyes stared blankly to the side as he remained unnervingly still, not even his chest rising to take a breath. There was no blood, no wounds to speak of. No indicators that anything was wrong other than his lips being tinged blue.

Morvyn had been awake a bit too early this morning after having gone to bed exceptionally early too and after leaving the dorms to head for class, soon realized that he hadn't been to the bathroom for a couple of hours. He cringed and looked around... where were all the bathrooms in this place again? Oh, that one. He went into the bathroom and slowed as he saw someones feet in the middle of the hall. He rounded the corner to see a kid on the floor "...Hey kid...are you alright?" he asks quickly and moves over to the boy, turning him over only to go still staring down at his face. He opens and shuts his mouth a few times before standing and backing away slowly, shaking all over. He turns and runs to the door, bursting his way out of it and screaming at the top of his lungs. The headmaster had been on the floor above in the entrance hall when he'd heard the screaming and he and a group of students all rushed to see what was happening, catching sight of the distraught boy curling up against the wall and hugging himself. Salvador rushed to the stairs and hurried down them "Mr. Huckleborn! What's wrong child?" he asks quickly. Morvyn shakily pointed a finger towards the bathroom and then burried his face in his hands. The headmaster quickly went to the bathroom and stepped in, checking the boy swiftly. He soon found tears in his eyes "Mr. Roderick.....oh dear boy.." he croaks and touches lightly at the boys hair before standing and leaving the room, locking it tightly with a spell. He moves to pick up Morvyn and holds the child against him. After a moment of comforting the lad he raised his wand and cast quietly "Expecto Patronum.." out of his wand came a harpy eagle much like his pet of pure silvers and blues "relay this to any staff you find in the school: Come to the entrance hall, no matter what you are doing." And with that the eagle turned and flew away, first to the dungeons and then to search the rest of the school.

At the call of the silvery eagle that summoned the teachers and staff, Sable rose from her desk in the dungeons, hurrying up the long spiraling stairways. What had happened this time? What was going on now?
Leslie had been in the Great Hall, about to enjoy breakfast, when the eagle flew by and in Professor Salvador's voice, commanded they all come to the entrance hall. She sighed, stood up, and bustled out. What on earth was this about?

Marius, deeming it safe enough for him to come out, had emerged from his dormitory that morning right before breakfast. He had enjoyed a casual meal in the kitchen, the house elves being eternally courteous. After eating to his heart's content, he headed to his office to collect his sixth year essays to grade, and also a few pieces of a pocket watch he was tinkering with. Trying to enchant it. It was being difficult, his efforts be damned.
He was headed out to the grounds to do his work by the lake. Although not advised, should any trouble arise, he was confident enough he would be able to hold his own. As he left through a side courtyard an eagle soared from a high tower and headed back towards the entrance hall. He knew it was saying something, but due to the distance he couldn't discern what. Neatly folding the papers and placing them in his satchel, he sprinted over to roughly where the patronus would be. As he got closer he heard Professor Salvador's voice, calling all staff to the entrance hall. Curious.
Already on the way back to the castle. Marius had basically given up hope of having a peaceful morning. Something clearly must be terribly wrong, he figured, because the chances of all the staff of Hogwarts being called together for a surprise party were extremely slim. He broke back into a run and made headway to the entrance hall. He pushed opened the doors and beelined for Slavador. Panting slightly he greeted the headmaster and inquired the reason they were called here.

Fallyn looked gravely at the group and waited for them to come by, Larus, the Gryffindor HoH, came by in a hurry looking rather flustered and stopped beside the headmaster "Fallyn, what is it? whats happened?"
The headmaster raised his wand as the patronus returned and then looked upon the others around him "I'm very sorry to say Julian Roderick has just been found dead in the bathroom" his voice wavers just slightly and tears glisten in the mans eyes but don't fall. He rubs the shivering Morvyn's back and slowly guides him towards Leslie and into her arms where the boy clung to her for dear life "Your young nephew found the body...i suggest some counceling with the nurse. Leslie, please, contact the ministry and have them send by someone to check the cause of Mr. Rodericks death..." he looks then to Sable "If you could owl his father for me Sable and call him to the castle" he bows his head.
Lastly he looks to Marius and takes a long deep breath "no doubt the press will come...i'm sure you will be familiar with the art of fending them off or diverting them.. please do not allow them near here if possible"

Marius was shocked, reeling even. He had only briefly come to know the boy in his time at Hogwarts. He was in his house and in his class, a decent student, but that was the extent of their relationship. Even then, for a child to just up and die, no prior cause or conviction, it was enough to shake the Charms professor to his core. He ran a hand through his hair and noticed he was sweating slightly.
When Fallyn turned to him, and gave his request, Marius smiled weakly. "Of course, sir, it should be no problem. They won't get past the entrance courtyard. I'll whip up some sort of press conference and tell them everything they get to know." He looked sheepishly over at the bathroom and swallowed, wrecked by his nerves. He nodded to the headmaster and did an about-face, headed back out towards the entrance courtyard, trying to think of a way to spin the entire situation.

Restricted to his cabin under the orders of strict bed rest, Thomas Baker had grown restless. Several days removed from the run-in with the winged horse, and he was growing increasingly more frustrated at his difficulties performing the most basic of tasks. The accident had left him in quite a state; a fractured collar bone, dislocated shoulder, and a deep head-wound that had rendered him out of commission. Thanks to Kayleen Farley and Sable Thanasis' quick intervention, he'd been spared more severe wounds. Skelegro had made quick work of repairing the fracture after its initial administration by the Potions professor.
Against the orders of the potions professor, however, he had not made a trip to the hospital wing for further care. Instead, and with Kayleen's assistance, he'd continued his recovery without magical intervention. Several butterfly stitches closed the rather bruised-around-the-edges wound on his head, with bandages hiding the still tender area of his shoulder and a sling rendering his right arm unusable. Now Baker stood at his window, peering out to the grounds, cabin fever having taken its toll upon him. Rumors of his injury were bound to have flown all around campus by now.
A flicker of silvery gray caught his eye as he was to turn from the window. It had disappeared so quickly.. had he imagined it? Through the partially cracked window, the man could have sworn he heard the headmaster's voice. Something was wrong, he thought to himself. Very wrong indeed.
That does it. Sable Thanasis be damned, I'm not going to sit here any longer.
No matter how frightening she is.
After a tedious struggle to dress and without managing to get his injured arm through the sleeve of his robes, the man slipped out of the cabin and headed in the direction of the castle. Eyes flitted upward to follow the path of the patronus, barely visible in the distance as it headed into the castle. Baker managed to trail it and, pushing his way sideways through the massive oak doors, stopped abruptly just beyond the threshold at the sight of the increasingly larger gathering that awaited him there.

Fallyn frowns as he see's Baker and looks to the group of staff before abandoning them momentarily to step towards the injured man "You should be resting Thomas" he says almost like a concerned father but there was obviously a glisten in his eyes. He motions towards the bathroom and leans closer to whisper "A boy, Julian Roderick has been found dead in the bathroom....the boy was of poor health, but i will be having it checked regardless. I'm...very very sorry that this has happened.. dearly sorry...i feel i could have done more"

Baker shook his head firmly. Only to wince at the pain it caused. "I'll be fine.. it's the students I'm concerned about. " The man ignored the pain and looked questioningly at the headmaster. News of Roderick's death was like a check to the gut. He'd not known the boy, but it was tragic nonetheless.
"Not centaurs?" Baker murmured quietly, low enough for only the headmaster to hear. The current state of affairs with their four-legged brethren were a constant source of worry for the Care of Magical Creatures professor.

Leslie readily took her nephew in to her arms and held on to him. Poor boy, losing his mother and now finding a fellow student dead! She cooed at Morvyn, and said, "Shhh, dear, shhh... Come along, my boy, come along. You don't have to go to any classes today, just stay with Auntie and cry it out." She nodded to Headmaster Salvador and led her nephew away so she could contact Grom and the Aurors, as well as any scene investigators.
Sable winced when Fallyn spoke the name of the student. Roderick. The boy had been terrified of Sable since the moment he came to her class. She felt grieved and guilty for not being there to help him, not only once, but twice now. She said, "Likely an asthma attack. But that boy usually keeps some Muggle-device on him for those emergancies..." She was struck curious about why he hadn't been able to use it now. Hm, perhaps he'd left it somewhere? It was too strange. Still, she nodded, and said, "Yes, Headmaster, I will send him an owl... No doubt the Ministry will use their Obliviators to modify the poor man's memory to forget about the magical world." She'd read it often enough. Muggleborns who died at their magical schools, whatever the reason, left grieving parents who would have a hard time explaining to others why their child had died (or blamed the magical community and threatened to expose them), so governments modified their memories to believe that their child had been an ordinary, non-magical human, sent to an expensive boarding school after receiving a scholarship, and ended up having an accident or illness and then, the parents would be allowed to grieve and go on about their lives as if magic had never touched it.
Sable turned and left to do her duty, still confused. Meanwhile, other students had begun to poke their heads out and inquire. Tate Dawson burst in to tears. He'd considered little Julian a friend. Charlotte started crying as well, and covered her mouth. Poor child! Heather, however, was more worried for Morvyn, as she saw her friend being escorted away.

Was still rather emotionally wrought on the inside, but turmoil would have to take a back seat for now. Working in a frenzy with a few house elves he pulled from the kitchen, he quickly set up the materials for a press conference, chairs, a stage, a line. The line they would not cross. Most of his effort had been to set up a barrier preventing any particularly slimy reporters from worming their way into the building to get a snapshot of the deceased boy. He'd been encountering some difficulties, as students could pass through easily, but staff members complained that it felt like they were pushing through saran-wrap, but it would have to do, just until they all leave.
He knew how quickly word traveled in Hogwarts, and the moment it leaked, it would spread faster than a fire in the world's most dead forest. He figured reporters would be apparating to just outside school grounds and making their way here like roaches to rotted food. Despite Marius's fame and notability, he had little love for reporters an paparazzi. Almost all of them, scum, just waiting to take something harmless and sensationalize it to their heart's content. he thought, as he noticed the first figure coming up the bridge.
