Character Description:
There he stands. He's just wonderful isn't he? The extremely handsome and debonair man grins widely with his perfect teeth. His firey red hair swept over his perfectly chiseled face. Yes, this... this was a man who knew a thing or two about fame. His from his crisp blue eyes to his tall stature. It was like he was crafted to be on a poster as an idol to little children everywhere.
Personality/Beliefs Outline:
Marius... is well, full of himself. He considers himself to be nothing less than the greatest wizard alive, and soon to be the greatest wizard WHO EVAR LIVED. He isn't rude, he just... prefers adoration. Not one to be cruel to students or those around him, he just seems to be ignorant completely to the fact that he is being so obnoxious. When it comes to the halfblood/muggle-born fiasco he is, despite being a pureblood, very pro-muggle born.
Background
Mother: Felicia Catherwood (neƩ Wickliff)
Father: Darren Catherwood
Felicia Wickliff was born in the Dublin area of Ireland, and lived a normal, droll life, where she met her husband Darren Catherwood. They now are the proprietors of a small bookstore on Diagon Alley, where they receive the privilege of receiving the first copies of their son's book to sell.
Siblings: Marcus Catherwood
Marcus is Marius's younger brother by ten years, a more bitter, jaded person, he hates living in the shadow of his brother. He worked as a secretary for two years in the Ministry of Magic before going mad and trying to destroy the place, earning himself a long stay in Azkaban.
Country of Origin: Ireland
Heritage: Pure-blood, descendant of the Catherwood and Wickliff families.
History:
Born to his parents Felicia and Darren in a suburb of Dublin, Marius was never truly satisfied with his dull life. He was fascinated by Muggle archaeologists, making discoveries about the past and finding brilliant treasure. When he was young he fantasized about being an explorer to find uncharted lands and hidden treasure. When he recieved his letter to Hogwarts he went to Diagon Alley and purchased his school supplies and his wand, which was described as "Aspen with Basilisk Skin, a rare combination, very haughty, very proud, particularly good for charms."
When he arrived at Hogwarts he was sorted into Hufflepuff. Determined not to be the butt of ridicule, he set out to model himself after his idols, storybook explorers. Over the years he would change his appearance with charms and transfiguration, removing his freckles (but keeping his red hair, feeling it defined his heratige) making himself taller, more handomse, straightening his teeth, and improving his physique. While originally frowned upon by his family , they deemed it for the best and found him to be much happier in his new state.
After graduating from Hogwarts as Head Boy of Hufflepuff, he applied at the Ministry of Magic, hoping to find a job with adventure and mystery, but he was turned down by the Auror office and every international board. He was accepted, however, as an unspeakable in the department of mysteries, where he worked for four years before retiring. Unsatisfied with his life, on a whim he applied at Gringotts for a curse-breaker career, and was accepted (he later learned it was because the Department of Mysteries sent them an Owl essentially saying they weren't allowed to turn him down). In his new position as a curse-breaker, he found he was finally doing the thing he loved, and was truly quite good at it. But after a year of working for Gringotts, he didn't like that he was looting for a bank and retired from that job.
After retiring he penned a tell-all memoir about his time as a curse-breaker, which while not particularly revealing, was a surprisingly good read and amassed him a small fortune. From then on he worked as a freelance curse-breaker of sorts, exploring and discovering. He quickly became famous after discovering the remnants of a small Wizarding empire in Greece and increased upon his wealth by keeping half of the treasure from every discovery he made.
As a hobby, Marius wrote books and memoirs about his journeys, and while mildly embellished, they were all surprisingly truthful. He had achieved what he had dreamed of, immense wealth and fame and his dream job. He was also notable for his use of charms, jinxes, hexes, and transfiguration to infiltrate tombs and discover lost locations, and lectured heavily on that. And for nine years and seven more books, life was good for him.
All was going well for Marius until the Catherwood-Murlock Incident at the ministry, where his younger brother Marcus and a conspirator name Bryan Murlock, became determined to bring down the ministry, litereally. They caused mass chaos and killed a workman and were both sentenced to life in Azkaban. The harsh public eye was then cast on his family, and the populous was beginning to turn on him, so he made the decision to step out of the limelight for a few years, and took up a teaching job as the Charms professor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
