Character Description:
Matthew isn't your typical teenage boys - in fact, he was an oddity. The kid was always quiet and never seemed to talk, preferring to keep to his own company. Never really seemed to listen, either, as it normally took a bit to get his attention when he was focused on something else. All the same, the dark haired boy was friendly enough, once you got him to open up, and he seems to take pleasure in the simpler things in life.
Personality Outline:
Unlike the stereotypical pureblood, Matthew puts no faith into any kind of blood based or race based superiority. Of course, it's a bit hard to put faith into that when your brother - who happens to be your best friend - ends up being inflicted with lycanthropy. All the same, he thinks everyone is created equal and that this includes magical beings, muggleborns, halflings and halfbloods.
While Matthew is a very unassuming figure - all the way down to his tiny, neat handwriting - he will fight tooth and nail for his way when he feels it necessary. He's incredibly determined and won't give up on something simply because it's not easy.

Being the fourth child, Matthew would already be considered the baby of the family. The nine year gap between him and his youngest sibling just exacerbates it. His appearance also sets him apart from the rest of his family as the rest of them are blond or ginger while he takes after his grandmother and has dark hair and requires corrective lenses. But it isn't just that - Matthew was born into a pureblood family, and since birth he's been deaf. Despite the tight money situation, his parents had tried everything to fix his hearing, but nothing worked. So instead they accepted that there was nothing they could do, and instead stressed that he needed to learn to manage his condition so that he'd need minimal if any help when he grew up.
Because of their support and their help in finding him resources, he's learned BSL (British Sign Language) and is able to read lips. However, reading lips is not an exact science and he only catches about 40% of what people say - and only if they're looking directly at him. BSL also has its fall backs, as most individuals don't know it - and especially not Wizarding individuals. Though his voice works fine, he prefers not to speak.
Five years ago, his older brother Caledon was attacked and bitten by a werewolf because he protected their sister Abigale. Though he survived, he contracted lycanthropy, and now has to live with this condition. The attack bore a horrific blow to the family, with their father working in Werewolf Regulations and Registry. Caledon was quietly fired from his position in the Ministry and had to move back home, to the disgust of his sister, Abigale.
Abigale caused a lot of drama in the family because of this incident, because even though her brother protected her and probably saved her life, she is heavily prejudiced about magical creatures. She hated what happened to her brother, and prefers to pretend that her brother died in the attack and ignore his existence, rather than admit that her brother became "one of those THINGS". As Matthew was incredibly close to his brother and believed that everyone should be considered equal, this caused a lot of stress for him and he ended up getting into a lot of arguments with her.
Following the rest of his siblings, he was accepted to Hogwarts and will be attending classes there for his Wizarding education. while he understands there will be complication because of his inability to hear, he feels he's up for the challenge and expects to require additional classes and training. He is also fully aware that he will have problems with spell casting until he can master using spells silently - but he's determined to attend school just like a normal up and coming wizard.
