Character Description:
Being slightly underweight and standing just below six feet, there was little to distinguish the young man from any other. His face was somewhat angular and lined by years of training and exhaustion. Behind a soft curtain of rope-colored hair were his eyes. One could say they were his most distinctive feature, if not the only; they were of a deep hazel and held a thirsty curiosity that made it difficult to hold his gaze. Elsewhere on his body, his long-fingered hands adjusted the striped scarf about his neck and stuffed themselves into the pockets of his school robes. There was a patch on the knee of his close-fitting trousers and one of his wingtip oxfords had come untied.
Personality/Beliefs Outline:
Arthur is quite shy. Many people take this as snobbery or reservation, when in all actuality, he's too apprehensive to approach them directly. Once he's had an opportunity to experience a person or a place, he slowly emerges from his silence to function much like any other human being. As a result of his personality, Arthur manages to keep a few close friends which he values above all else. He will do anything to defend his home and the ones he holds dear.
Background
Mother:
Bridget, 52. Herbologist minorly famed for discovering the thirty-four uses of knotweed.
Father:
Richard, 54. Wizarding ecologist- meaning he studies, catalogs, and discovers species of magical creatures.
Siblings:
-Nicholas, 20. Quidditch commentator and magical sports archivist.
-Alexander, would be 16. Deceased. Arthur's twin brother, death by drowning (see below).
-Marysse, 7.
Country of Origin:
England. The Sussex region, in particular.
Heritage:
Mixed blood- mother is a half-blood, father is a pure blood. Amounts to 3/4, respectively.
History:
Bridget and Richard met each other through a government project. They worked closely together for nearly two years on a project that focused on the unusual magical ecology in Sussex, England. As they grew closer as colleagues, they fell in love with each other and with the land they studied. As a result, they consummated their marriage and settled down in the region. Their first son, Nicholas, was conceived soon after.
Several years after their firstborn entered the world, he was joined by a pair of twins- Arthur and his late brother, Alexander. The two were inseperable from birth, and had each other's backs one hundred percent of the time. If one was vulnerable, the other would pick up the slack. They finished each other's sentences.
Even for twins, they shared a particularly strong bond.
At the age of 7, the twins had already begun to show great magical potential. They were also, much to their mother's chagrin, fiercely curious and independent. On a holiday to the seaside, the two had clambered out of their older brother's watchful gaze and wandered off to explore some rocks at the water's edge. Even then, the climate had begun to roughen. The waves crashed against the rock, dangerously close to the boys. They continued on unabashedly in search of a cave which might perhaps contain skeletons or mermaids. As a particularly large crest hit the rock, Arthur and Alexander were swept off their feet and went tumbling down to the rocks below. Some force within Arthur kicked in, and he bounced off the rock and into the spray. Alexander, however, was not so fortunate. His head his the rocks with a sickening crack and he disappeared into the waves, never to be seen by his brother or parents again.
Arthur reacted as any twin would to this event. He withdrew into himself and became listless, searching for the connection that no longer existed. He amused himself with books and Quidditch.
When the time came for the boy to depart from Hogwarts, he was thrown from the comfort zone he had created for himself. He was sorted into Gryffindor. He found himself emerging from his cocoon a little every day- taking risks, making friends. He discovered his natural talent for improving the lives of others, as well as a passion for flight.
